Feels like fall

It sure feels like fall these days. We are welcoming the change in weather and everything that goes with it; the colors, decorations, mums and pumpkins and everything apple. We recently got a new truck load of trees and bushes and it refreshed us and brought new life into our sales area. We have definitely done a complete transformation from tired summer to festive fall. Fall also brings a great time to plant trees, bushes, grasses and perennial vines. In the fall the roots put on the most growth. Using a root stimulating fertilizer you help increase the growth that helps fuel healthy spring growth too. Can't afford to plant this month? No problem, a good rule of thumb is that if the ground is soft enough for you to dig the hole you are ok to plant. We had people planting as late as December last year. Another benefit to planting in the fall is the watering schedule is much less demanding.  When the temps are in the 50-70 degree range you may only need to water 2-3 times a week. As opposed to the summer when you might have needed to water sometimes up to 2-3 times a day. Either way just don't forget that plants need a minimum of 1" of water a week just to survive, not grow. If we have another dry fall and winter don't forget to give them a drink, even if they lost their leaves already
